This book is mainly for undergraduate students and general readers. It is covered the ancient history of India from the earliest time to 7th century A.D. The book is based on a good portion of Ancient India, which was first published by NCERT in 1977. Sharma was first published in 2005 from the Oxford University Press, New Delhi. Kosambi also discusses the difference between the Indian feudalism and European feudalism and the role of trade in feudal society. In the origin of feudalism, Kosambi approaches two theories i.e feudalism from above and feudalism from below. Most important chapter of the book is feudalism. The book deals with the pre-historic archaeology, Indus valley Civilization, Aryan and the land of the seven rivers and their expansion and many more. Firstly author mentions important methods, which are important for the study of history. An Introduction to the Study of Indian History consisted ten chapters and all the chapters are valuable. Actually it is not a traditional history book, it is a modern approach to the study of Indian history.
